Stylus Projects
(coming...)

These are but a few of the websites I have been working on at Stylus.

BCE Website - This site was completly redesigned shortly after I joined Stylus. I was solely responsible for creating the DHTML interface elements and their degraded counterparts for older browsers. Key pages to view are:

Financial Reports
IR History

BCE Annual Report 1999 - The Annual report should be accessed from the BCE site to be viewed properly. It utilized a great deal of DHTML, flash and javascript.

CGI Website - Although in existence before my arrival, I did much work on the CGI site. In addition to regular maintenance, I was solely responsible for implementing the redesign of their front page and the services section of the site. Javascript, flash, and SSI were used primarily to accomplish these tasks.

More to come...

Fondation Ricard Website

I was contracted to design a graphical interface for the www.fondationricard.com website. The site's design needed to remain consistent with existing promotional materials, while also fullfilling the clients desire for something fresh and accessible. Three designs were presented to the client, who chose one of them to form the basis of their new site. Implementation of the design was then handled by HBE Interactive.

Flash Effects

These are some of the flash effects that I have developed. (plug-in required)

Spotlight - a moving spotlight lights up object and text.

Ghosted Text - text is partially revealed by a ghosting effect.

Pop-up text panel - a text panel pops up to show scrolling text controlled by arrows.

Moving Target - a target follows the mouse around the screen.

Lens Flare - a lens flare acts as a button in conjunction with invisible buttons and a movie clip.

Lights - special lighting effects.

Flash Opening - a flash of light onscreen.

Caretaker Demo (Flash)

In Progress - Projectors
Windows
Macintosh

This is a Flash demonstration for a database-based cataloguing application. Neither the demo nor the program was finished when I left the company, however you may still view a version of the demo in progress.

Web Design|Portfolio

This site, of course, is the one you are currently viewing. Its purpose is to demonstrate web design skills in a number of different areas while still maintaining a sense of continuity across the site. This was accomplished through the repetition of the logo in a similar position on all of the pages, using a constant visual style throughout and by incorporating the iconic letter "K" into the design of each of the distinct pages.

Great care was taken to ensure that each of the pages, while taking advantage of HTML 4.0 features, would degrade gracefully in 3.0 browsers. The page shown below illustrates this perfectly. The image on the left shows how one of the site's pages appears in a 4.0 browser, while the image on the right shows how the exact same page looks in a 3.0 browser (Netscape was used for this example). While enhanced in the more recent browser, it remains accessible to the older software. This was accomplished using javascript to control the page layout depending on the browser being used to view it. This could have been more easiliy accomplished using SSI, which is unfortunately not available on the server which hosts this site, however this example also serves to demonstrate my javascript profeciency

"Following a Dream"

"Following a Dream"/"A la poursuite d'un rêve" was a web-enabled CD-ROM project which was done as part of a pilot project sponsored by Claridge (owned by the Bronfman foundation) and Bombardier Inc. The project was intended to be a learning tool aimed at sixth grade students, with the goal of introducing the students to Canadian art from the Claridge collection and artifacts from the Bombardier museum. The interface was created in Director and placed on a CD to provide quick local access. The CD included references to a corresponding website for the dynamic aspects of the project, including a database of collected objects and images. In addition to various other tasks, I was solely responsible for the creation of the Journalism Activity module (pictured below). It was designed to provide a simple and straightforward interface that would be easy to use and that would appeal to sixth-graders. You may view the module as a Shockwave movie by selecting either of the images below, but please note that it is a large file (676 K) because it was designed for distribution on a CD-ROM, not over the Internet.

As this is meant simply as a demonstration of work I have done, the French version of the module and the links to the rest of the CD have been disabled for practical reasons. You will need the Shockwave plug-in to view this.

Phoenix Newspaper

As Editor-in-Chief of the Phoenix newspaper, I practiced traditional print design within the constraints of tight deadlines and newsprint. Although the visual style of the newspaper had already been defined before my arrival, I took this as an opportunity to experiment with different variations on a theme. Our goal was to remain fresh and interesting without compromising the paper's sense of identity.
